Chile started looking for dark energy

At the Chilean Observatory of Cerro – Tololo, on August 31, a project began to search for dark energy, designed for 5 years. In the process of conducting observations, it is expected to explore an eighth of the visible sky, going deeper in time for eight million years. Dark energy causing the accelerated expansion of the Universe cannot be observed directly, but it is possible to estimate its effect on the Universe by observing its usual structures and phenomena, in this case one hundred thousand galaxies, three thousand supernovae, as well as the effect of gravitational lensing.

The main instrument of the scientists' work is a special camera recently installed on one of the observatory's telescopes.
