The heads of Roscosmos and ESA continue to wait for the signal from the Schiaparelli lander, which landed on Mars yesterday. According to scientists' calculations, the spacecraft entered the planet's atmosphere at an altitude of about 122 km at a speed of 21,000 km / h. The parachute was deployed at a distance of 11 km to the surface at a speed of 1650 km / h. However, information about a safe landing has not yet been reported.
As the head of Roscosmos Igor Komarov noted, since the start of the new crew on the ISS, everything went on as usual, the docking was to take place at 13:00 on Friday.
'Today the most important event for us is the landing of the module on Mars. It's nice that at the moment the hopes placed on the equipment have been justified, we are waiting for a clear signal from the module. This is very important for our joint research with Europe. There will be difficulties, there will be mistakes, but there is confidence in our further steps, ”Igor Komarov stressed the night before.
Earlier, Vladimir Nazarov, head of the department of ground-based scientific complexes of IKI, confirmed that Schiaparelli had landed on the surface of the Red Planet. 'However, unfortunately, there is nothing to say about his condition after landing. The signal was very weak, 'said Vladimir Nazarov.
Schiaparelli is a demonstration landing module for the initial stage of the joint mission ExoMars-2016, the first project in the history of cooperation between the European Union and Russia to find life on Mars.
