NASA launches site of epic photographs of Earth from space

There are many satellites in Earth's orbit that can take amazing photographs, but none of them managed to take a photograph of the entire planet at once.

None other than the polychromatic camera (EPIC), which NASA oversees. She sends back thousands of amazing, truly epic photos every year, and you can now check them out on the new site.

EPIC is a 4MP CCD camera installed on the NOAA DSCOVR (Deep Space Climate Observatory, also known as GoreSat) satellite. The probe was launched in 2015 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

The DSCOVR satellite successfully flew to the L1 Lagrange point. It is believed that Langrange points are located in gravitational equilibrium between two bodies. In this case, the L1 position allows the satellite to remain between the Earth and the Sun, which allows it to always face the daytime side of the Earth, which is ideal for capturing images. The probe is 1.6 million kilometers from the Earth and 147 million kilometers from the Sun.
