At the end of October, during observations of the activity of the Sun by the special solar observatory Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), a phenomenon unusual for the sun was discovered – a powerful electromagnetic arch, striking in its size.
NASA researchers reported that it was formed by means of magnetic field particles accelerated to incredible speeds, which are simply impossible to reproduce on Earth. The arch is located above a dark spot on the Sun – exactly in the place where the formation of magnetic field anomalies occurs.
The dimensions of the arch are comparable to the dimensions of the Earth, and the power of the energy that causes explosions on the Sun is millions of times greater than a nuclear explosion.
The tasks of the solar observatory Solar Dynamics Observatory include the transfer of images (seismic records) of processes associated with the activity of the Sun to NASA, thanks to which scientists not only study the processes occurring on the star, but also predict magnetic storms.
