According to the HiRISE team, the core of the dust devil is 50 meters wide, and based on the length of its shadow, they believe it is probably about 650 meters high.
While this dust devil is great, he is far from the biggest.
In March 2012, HiRISE photographed an active dust devil 20 kilometers high. But despite its impressive height, the dust devil was hardly wider than this recently seen: only 70 meters.
In other words, the Martian colonists already had something to worry about – and now they can add towering swirls of dust and debris to the list.
