While NASA is aiming to establish its lunar base on the Moon by 2028, Nokia says in press releases that it hopes to deploy the 'first ultra-compact, low-power, space-resistant, end-to-end LTE solution' to the Moon's surface in late 2022, just two years from now. .
“Building on our successful history of space technology, from pioneering satellite communications to the discovery of the cosmic microwave background radiation created by the Big Bang, we are now building the first ever cellular network on the moon,” said Nokia CTO Markus Weldon.
He adds: “Reliable, resilient and high-performance communication networks will be key to maintaining a sustainable human presence on the lunar surface. With the first high-performance wireless networking solution on the moon, Nokia Bell Labs is once again setting the flag for pioneering innovation beyond the conventional. '
It is reported that Nokia will receive $ 14.1 million for the project. According to the mobile technology company, the network is “ideal for providing wireless connectivity for any activity that astronauts need to perform, providing voice and video capabilities, telemetry and biometrics, and the deployment and control of robots and sensors.”
