Scientists: the universe may contain about a trillion galaxies

Previously, it was believed that the number of galaxies in the observable Universe is about 100 billion. However, recent studies indicate that this figure could be at least 10 times higher.

According to a study carried out by specialists at the University of Nottingham (UK) under the leadership of Christopher Conselis, 90% of the galaxies in the region of the Universe observed with modern devices shine very faintly and are too far away to be seen.

Conselis believes that global discoveries are yet to come: “Who knows what interesting properties we will learn when we can explore these galaxies with next-generation telescopes.”

Based on mathematical calculations, creating three-dimensional images from images obtained by 'Hubble', scientists have established that during the development of the universe there was a change in the density of the location of galaxies. In addition, it was found confirmation that during almost 14 billion years of the history of the Universe, the formation of large galaxies occurred as a result of the merger of smaller ones.

In addition, an answer was obtained to the question of why, despite the huge number of galaxies, the sky remains dark. The researchers believe that the reason for this is the redshift of light, in which it becomes invisible to the human eye, as well as the absorption of light by intergalactic dust and gas, given the dynamic nature of the universe.
