Unexpectedly for everyone, the famous physicist Stephen Hawking said that most likely another mass extinction on Earth will again be caused by the fall of an asteroid, which carries a 'serious threat' to our planet, but this will happen in the distant future.
The Daily Express published a video made by astrophysicist Brian May with Hawking, in which this warning sounds. It is noteworthy that this is not the first such statement by a physicist – he recently said that humanity may face the threat of extinction within several thousand years and people will have to leave Earth to avoid the consequences of a catastrophic event.
'Although the likelihood of such a catastrophe on planet Earth this year may be quite low, it will surely occur within the next 1000 or 10000 years. By this time, we must be ready to go into space, to other stars, so this disaster will not mean the end of the human race. '
Stephen Hawking also emphasized the importance of the 'Asteroid' mission, which detects potentially dangerous space bodies and prevents perceived threats.
“One of the main threats to intelligent life in our universe is the high likelihood of an asteroid colliding with habitable planets,” he said. “The more we learn about all of these objects, the more we can be prepared to prevent exposure that is dangerous to us.”
