In 2017, the millionaire entrepreneur and founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk, boldly declared that it is possible, and most importantly, it is necessary to provide tourist flights into space for absolutely everyone in the near future. And today the company announced a new plan for a tourist tour around the moon, which will be carried out using the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), a large launch vehicle designed to transport people into space.
“SpaceX has already identified the world's first private passenger to fly around the moon aboard our BFR launch vehicle, marking a major milestone in space travel for access for all those dreamed of flying into space,” the company said on Twitter.
At the same time, SpaceX did not provide any details, but said there would be more information on Monday. This isn't the first time that a California-based company led by internet entrepreneur and founder of Tesla electric vehicles, Elon Musk, has been touting plans to send tourists to orbit the Moon.
So, in February 2017, SpaceX announced that it would send the first two space tourists to orbit the moon at the end of 2018. According to this plan, tourists were to fly in the Dragon space capsule, in which SpaceX regularly sends cargo to the International Space Station.
Time passed, but the plans remained plans. The names of the tourists who were willing to pay for the flight were not even revealed. Now SpaceX also declines to provide more details, but company officials said additional details would be announced at a conference Monday night.
SpaceX is currently a key commercial partner of NASA and is developing a manned spacecraft, which, according to plans, will make its first flight to the ISS next year.
