Virtual archaeologists continue to explore the Red Planet by photographs taken by the Curiosity rover, finding on them all new evidence that once on Mars life was in full swing: flowed rivers, splashing the sea, had its own flora and fauna and, possibly, Martian civilization existed.

In one of the last pictures of the Curiosity massehod, sent March 25 of this year, they discovered a fragment of a petrified tree. However, skeptic scholars do not share this opinion, assuming that the “stump” sticking out above the surface by about meter, nothing more than a fragment of solidified lava, which in shape can be anything you like, including looking like the rest of a tree.

NASA employees have so far refrained from commenting, saying that space agency there is no complete certainty that this really petrified tree stump, like no evidence the opposite. For a more thorough and comprehensive study of the picture, as well as some other materials sent that day rover, it will take some time.

Despite this rather skeptical statement, proponents of the “living planet” Mars are already jubilant and call the current a find amazing and unique, considering that soon it can become a real sensation.
