A photo from open sources Newsweek unveiled declassified US military plans for using the moon for their own purposes. The Pentagon planned to place on the natural Earth satellite several military bases, and deploy active spying on a strategic adversary by the Soviet Union. By the end of 1964 years, the United States was about to launch 74 missions to the moon in order to create lunar and orbital bases. They should have been deployed by next year. It was also planned to land two astronauts. Already in 1966, a base was to be built on the satellite containing 12 people. Another CIA idea was to create a special system, which could interfere with the work of Soviet satellites. However it was decided to abandon it, since the American side feared a symmetrical response from the USSR. Napoleonic US plans could cost the country six billion dollars at the rate fifties. Besides gaining a military advantage over opponents there were much crazier plans. So, according to Newsweek, there were suggestions to drop to the moon atomic bomb. All this was intended to terrify the Soviet Union. In addition, it was proposed to place several nuclear test reactors. The publication also mentions a curious case when during the exhibition in which he took participation of the USSR, the Americans managed to kidnap for several hours Soviet exhibit – one of the satellites of the Luna series. To the Americans managed to photograph the inside of the device, after which it was returned to the place. The Soviet side did not react to what happened, which gave the Americans a reason to decide that no one did not notice. It has become a special pride of the American intelligence for years to come.
