American scientist discovered at the farthest planet The solar system – Neptune – is the fourteenth satellite in a row. US National Aeronautics and Research Administration outer space (NASA) reports that the author of this Discovery became Mark Showalter of California-based Private non-profit research institute NETWORK. Initially this the organization was engaged in the search for extraterrestrial civilizations.

As a result of studying more than 150 archival photographs, made in 2004-2009 by the Hubble Space Telescope, Marc Schoulter was able to find in Neptune previously unknown natural satellite to which the code name was assigned S / 2004 N1, ITAR-TASS reports. According to NASA experts, the size of this astronomical object is about 19 across kilometers. Thus, we are talking about the smallest of the 14 Neptune’s moons. Satellite S / 2004 N1 makes one revolution around Neptune in about 23 hours.

According to the degree of light emission, the satellite discovered by Mark Schoulter about 100 million times darker than the faintest star, which can be observed in the sky with the naked eye. Therein number, and for this reason S / 2004 N1 did not find American interplanetary probe Voyager 2, which flew past Neptune in 1989 year.
