Surely everyone once wondered how much in the sky of stars. The most persistent even began to count them. Is worth to say that their efforts were doomed to failure. We only see an infinitely small part of the stars, but there are so many of them that impossible to count. European Aerospace Agency started one of the most ambitious research missions in space history. Satellite “Gaia” to calculate everything stars. All is, of course, loudly said. However, using scientists plan to measure satellite coordinates and map position of more than a billion stars. The European Agency hopes that this will give humanity the first realistic picture of our Galaxies. The equipment installed on the satellite “Gaia”, so sensitive that along the way will detect thousands earlier unknown celestial bodies such as planets and asteroids. Work on a unique device lasted more than 20 years and cost 740 million Euro. All these efforts and costs will be rewarded when in the hands of will be the first accurate 3D map of our Galaxy – the Milky Way.
