For the first time in the history of science, scientists have discovered a piece of rock, whose age exceeds the age of the Earth.
As you might guess, this is a fragment of a meteorite, once fallen on our “blue ball”. Researchers suggest that this “extraterrestrial guest” was formed in space over 4.6 billion years ago when the solar system only began to form. It is specified that the meteorite had volcanic origin.
An amazing artifact was discovered in 2016 by nomads in desert in northern Africa and subsequently handed over to NASA experts, who determined the other day the record age of the find. A rock, code-named “NWA 11119”, has an unusually light color and multiple inclusions of green crystals of tridymite, constituting about 30% of its mass. The mineralogy of this fragment dramatically different from anything that American scientists have ever met.
Researchers hope further study of this artifact let them understand what processes took place billions of years ago trillions of kilometers from the area of space where it rotates today is our planet.
