Our planet is constantly experiencing an invasion from the outside. Not talking about the notorious green men. Just once every two weeks in the atmosphere hits one asteroid.
Information on the frequency of contact of our planet with celestial bodies was drawn by reporters from the asteroid map. Map Makers – NASA employees. When calculating statistics, small asteroids were taken into account, but only those celestial bodies, which have a diameter exceeding a meter. The map was compiled based on data collected by astrophysicists over a ten-year period (1994 – 2013). As it turned out, the Earth is not so rarely exposed contact with celestial bodies. And not all asteroids are so harmless that their fall is like a shooting star.
The case with the fall of meteorite fell into this gap, scared last year a lot of Chelyabinsk citizens. This is about Chebarkul asteroid, the fall of which became one of the most serious cases in the world, not counting the Tunguska meteorite. The destruction caused by him was equated with the consequences of the explosion, caused by detonation of 500,000 TNT. It’s pretty big indicator. Fortunately, the fall of such bodies can be observed extremely rare.
