The results of a new study suggest that some life forms are able to survive even in cold airless space of space.

The very idea that life forms can travel in the open Of the Universe, choosing a comet as a vehicle and asteroids, appeared a long time ago. Over time, she grew into concept known as panspermia, and has been put forward as a potential theory of the origin of life on Earth.

Given the number of cosmic stones that rush around of our solar system, it is likely that in this way “seeds” of life fall on neighboring planets. Although the degree in by which these “seeds” can survive in a cosmic vacuum, enough controversial. Previously, scientists believed that in space any known forms of life will perish, however, recently Russian scientists discovered plankton, which took a fancy to the outside of the International Space Station and safely lived there for more than two years. Surprise experts knew no bounds, as this finding confirms the possibility that life forms are not only able to exist in the most severe conditions, but can travel freely around open spaces of our solar system.

To learn more about environmental extremes, that microbes can withstand, scientists conducted an experiment in which placed some cultures of microorganisms on the outside platform of a special space station. As a result, everything microbes that were only exposed to space vacuum survived safely. Only those microorganisms died that were exposed to ultraviolet radiation in huge doses. The same microbes on which ultraviolet rays acted moderately, partially survived.

As a result of the experiment, scientists concluded that with favorable combination of external circumstances Traveling microorganisms are quite possible. Nonetheless, the subject of discussion continues to be another question, which distance can mix microorganisms. After all, in order to to get from one star system to another may be required several light years.
