Leading Researcher, Space Research Institute, RAS Nathan Eismont reported that at an altitude of 1000 kilometers in 5 days tourists will receive a powerful exposure, as radiation belts pass at an altitude of 600 to 8000 kilometers.
Earlier it became known that the company Ilona Mask Spacex is preparing send four tourists on the ship Crew Dragon. Tentatively they will be in space for five days at an altitude of about 1,000 kilometers. Experts believe that during the flight, people will receive a dose of radiation, which is comparable to the maximum allowable per year among liquidators Chernobyl accident. The fact is that in space, starting from 600-700 km and ending with 7000-8000 km pass radiation belts, therefore being in these places is unsafe.
According to Eismont, the altitude at which the ISS flies (about 400 kilometers) is not so critical, but also has unhealthy human plots. For example, in the area of the Brazilian magnetic anomalies where the radiation belt is lower due to the fact that the magnetic the field is pressed to the Earth.
Further, the expert said that when the American astronauts flew to the moon, then they also received a dose of radiation. However it is the phenomenon was short-lived, as they quickly passed this piece of space.
Eismont believes SpaceX is aware of radiation belts and will not endanger people. Besides of this, the higher the flight altitude, the higher its cost due to increase in fuel costs. The flight is likely to take place well below radiation belts.
