Krasnodar astronomers have discovered a new asteroid

It is located in the constellation Pegasus, but by world standards considered to be an object in advance dangerously approaching the Earth. Photos from open sources Scientists observed the comet Katalin, and stumbled upon asteroid IAL63X. But this is only a preliminary of his Photo Title: Kuban State Observatory University In fact, the discovery happened back in early December, but astronomers of the observatory of Kuban State University Alexander Ivanov and Viktor Ivanov had yet to prove that the object seen is real and not yet registered by other scientists. To do this, they needed to at least once “catch” an asteroid in the field telescope view. And then the weather intervened, the clouds covered the sky. The object did not appear for about a week. But for astronomy this is not term, and patient scientists have confirmed their finding. But this is not yet all. – The information we receive with the help of the university a half-meter telescope, sent to study at the Center for Small planets working at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory sponsored by the International Astronomical Union. Sent picture a special robot looks, he decides, deserves information attention or not, explains the head of the observatory Alexander Ivanov.

The robot gave the go-ahead and even assigned a preliminary number to the asteroid. Preliminary because too little is known about the object. Its final orbit, for example, has yet to be determined, and it’s not just one day. Does a new asteroid fly directly to Earth or will pass far from the “ball”, scientists do not yet know. But according to international standards, all asteroids are immediately called an object dangerously approaching the Earth.

– It is necessary that our asteroid is recorded international observatories and confirmed its existence. Then we can give the name of the object, – emphasizes Alexander Ivanov.

For this, Krasnodar residents have already turned to colleagues – employees Three American observational telescopes. However, astronomers of KubSU already received congratulations on the opening from the Institute of Astronomy RAS and Institute of Applied Mathematics M.V. Keldysh RAS. Last time Kuban made astronomical discoveries in 1989, when it was discovered a comet. But asteroids have not yet come across to our scientists. Elena SHUMOVSKAYA
