MRO photographed “hieroglyphs” on Mars

A photo from open sources

Although these strange structures on Mars resemble geoglyphs on Earth, they have a natural origin. On our planet similar formations also occur. Structures were Photographed by a HiRISE camera of the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). Similar formations result from lava flow interactions with groundwater or ice.

Evaporation of water in contact with hot lava leads to an ejection up lava and the emergence of cones without a peak. Structures were Photographed in the Amazon Plateau (Amazonis Planitia). On the Earth-like formations can be seen in Iceland.

The cones on Mars have a diameter of about one hundred meters, and their height is ten meters. The exact age of the structures is unknown.
