According to current forecasts, in the spring of 2013 and at the end of the year, two bright comets may also appear in the sky, but it’s more accurate to say about them when they approach the Sun, reports the Latvian Astronomical Society. 2013 will be very successful for observing the planets of the solar system. The brightest the planet – Venus – will be visible in the sky in the evenings from May to December. Mars can be seen in the mornings and in the second half nights starting in July. Jupiter until May will be noticeable in the first half of the night and in the evenings, from August to October – in the mornings and in in the second half of the night, and at the end of the year – from evening to dawn. Saturn can be observed at the beginning of the year in the morning and during in the afternoon, in the spring it will be visible in the sky during all night, and in the fall – in the evenings and in the first half of the night. Besides in addition, next year in the sky you can see Mercury. The most the small planet of the solar system will be clearly visible in the evening hours in February and May, and in the morning it can be seen in August and November. At the end of May, right after sunset in the sky you can see Venus, Jupiter and Mercury, because during this period the planets will be to be at a short distance from each other. April 25 evening in Latvia it will be possible to observe a partial lunar eclipse, but it will be difficult to notice, since its maximum phase will be very small (0.2) – the disk of the moon is only slightly darkened from one edge. On the night of October 19 in Latvia it will be possible to observe a penumbra moon eclipse. November 3 over the Atlantic Ocean and in the central part Africa will experience a very rare hybrid solar eclipse, during which in some regions it will be marked full, and in others – an annular solar eclipse. At the very beginning of the year in Quadrantids meteor shower – one of the three most active threads. When it reaches its maximum (January 3), the number “shooting stars” can reach up to 50 meteors per hour. Maximum Perseid meteor shower is expected on August 12 of next year – in this time in the sky can be seen up to 60 meteors per hour. And in end of the year – December 14 – maximum meteor shower expected Geminids, during which it will be possible to observe up to 90 falling stars per hour. This year there were reports that in 2013 in one or even two bright comets will appear in the sky. According to the latest calculations, the possible maximum brightness of comets is already inferior initial forecasts. Comet Pan-STARRS (C / 2011 L4) is known to as close to the Sun in March, and ISON (C / 2012 S1) – in November. In this regard, more accurate data on these comets will be known in the spring and autumn of 2013, experts explain.
