The reason for the lack of atmosphere in Mars, apparently is the solar wind – a stream of superionized particles, flowing from the outer layers of the atmosphere of the sun. It is reported by NASA based on the decoding of data obtained from artificial MAVEN satellite “Evolution of the atmosphere and volatiles on Mars”.

According to studies, part of the ions of the solar wind, reaching ionospheres, lose their charge and become neutral. In such they can penetrate into the lowest layers of the atmosphere, reaching which, return their charge to its original state. Understanding this process helps you understand the relationships that exist. between the lower atmosphere responsible for climate formation and the highest, with which the loss of atmosphere began.
It used to be that the solar wind could not penetrate deep into the atmosphere of the planet, as the ionosphere prevents this – upper atmosphere, strongly ionized coming from the sun rays. MAVEN satellite was able to prove the fallacy of this opinions.
