We are all tired of the ubiquitous annoying ads, however marketers don’t even think about slowing down, and maybe soon advertising images will appear … in the night sky. Just imagine, that you raise your head to admire the stars – and you see glowing Coca-Cola or McDonald’s logo flying in above. Russian startup is planning to bring this idea to life “StartRocket” under the leadership of businessman Vlad Sitnikov.

The company intends to send in space miniature satellites (cubesats) with reflectors that can to line up in various figures in the orbit of the Earth. sunlight will be reflected from them, creating glowing in the night sky drawings. Each cubsat will play the role of a kind of pixel for building a particular monochromatic image. Each size reflector, according to the plans of “StartRocket”, should not exceed 10 square meters, and the maximum distance between them will be be 100 meters. The project will cost startups at least 220 million rubles, for its implementation currently is already The search for investors began.

Of course, this idea immediately caused a flurry of criticism. Specialists claim that the space billboard will lead to the formation in orbit new debris and light pollution of the night sky. Moreover, there will always be a risk of such a billboard colliding with others satellites and even the ISS, not to mention the more serious consequences similar innovations. For example, the idea that in the foreseeable future children will watch the Big Dipper near the rushing across the sky the Adidas logo is somewhat discouraging, if not more…

Note, marketers planned to launch an advertisement in space in the last century. So, in 1993, Space Marketing Inc from The United States wanted to create a huge (in square kilometer) orbit of the Earth advertising board. And then there were no less grandiose plans for this score. Fortunately, they all failed.

Do you think we need space advertising and would you give implementation of the startup project “StartRocket” at least a ruble? ..
