Royal Observatory of Great Britain announced winners of the annual competition “Astronomical Photography 2014 of the Year “and the magnificent image of British photographer James Woodend aurora borealis over icelandic night sky was named the winner.
The competition has been held for the sixth year. “Every year everything becomes more and more difficult to judge, and we always marvel at mastery photographers, “said Dr. Maggie Aderyn-Pocock, one of the contest judges. “Deep Space” category, where applicants were able to capture such amazing details of objects found in many light years from us, which are almost on par with the images, obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, cannot but produce impression”.
