9 years ago Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, recorded a strange hole on the surface of Mars that stood out against the backdrop of the volcano Mount Peacock (lat. Pavonis Mons).

According to the researchers, the discovered hole may be the entrance to the huge cave, which is slightly lit from the right side. After analyzing this image, scientists came to the conclusion that the hole has a diameter of about 35 meters and a depth of 20 meters. Unfortunately, it is not clear how long this cave is.

Usually such places attract scientists most of all, since they protected from external influences, and can be considered as places where life can exist. In preparation research missions they will be the main objectives.

One of the main versions of the appearance of the hole is the fall meteorite. However, it’s not entirely clear how the funnel originated. around him and where did the soil fall? By the way, earlier on Mars were other, no less mysterious holes were discovered.

Some researchers believe that under the surface of Red planets can run branched caves, where else can be in liquid form water and other conditions favorable to biological life. According to this hypothesis, holes are Entrance to the Martian cave complexes. In support of this theory says the fact that not all similar Martian holes the bottom is visible. However, the future colonists in all seriousness consider them as places to deploy their bases.

Previously, scientists found that on one of the sites of Mars the magnetic field is ten times stronger than previously thought.
