NASA Representatives Reported Milestone Discovery on Mars two weeks ago, on November 20, but the sensation did not take place. -We got the data that will fall into the history books, – “let slip” the chief researcher of the mission Curiosity John Grotzinger in an interview with American radio (US National Public Radio). “They look really good.” Sensational recognition appeared after the rover – after several attempts – scooped up Martian soil and sent it to himself on chemical analysis, which was carried out using an on-board laboratory SAM installations (Sample Analysis at Mars). But what the analysis showed – kept so far a secret. Many experts have suggested we are talking about organic molecules – the precursors of life. The sensation was promised to be announced at the opening of the 45th Congress of the American Geophysical Union December 3 in San Francisco. On the appointed day while waiting, the entire scientific world has subsided. But alas, there’s no sensation took place. – Curiosity has completed the first full Martian analysis soil collected in the vicinity of the Rocky Nest – accumulations of sand and stones in the crater of Gale, where the rover is now located, – researcher Paul Mahaffy from the Center reported at a press conference NASA Space Flight Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland. – And, unfortunately, I did not find any organic substances – ingredients for life. It turns out that there is no life on Mars. And what is there? Here are the first results of the analysis of Martian sand, reported on the NASA website. 1. Water whose molecules are found in soil samples, turned out to be five times heavier than the earth because of the large the content of deuterium, a heavy isotope of hydrogen in it. 2. Soil Mars is half composed of volcanic rocks mixed with non-crystalline components such as glass. 3. Discovered a large number of different chemicals in low concentrations: substances containing sulfur and chlorine. However, experts have not yet sure that these compounds are completely Martian origin. It is possible that they were “brought” to Mars with Earth by the rover itself. By the way, Curiosity himself writes on Twitter. And in his last tweet, he urged fans to wait a bit: “New research awaits us. In the meantime, patience. Patience is mine middle name. “The Mars rover will have to work on the Red Planet in Gale Crater area for two years. Maybe, however, he will find something. As for the premature “sensational” recognition Grotzinger, then the chief investigator of the mission justifies that, supposedly the journalists mixed everything up. Grotzinger actually called “epochal” Curiosity mission itself, and journalists transferred it determination of the last samples collected by the apparatus.
