Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) was under development for more than 10 years. Long time local the inhabitants defended their lands with all truth and falsehoods. IN it has now become known that the project has received approval Hawaiian Council on Land and Natural Resources. Astronomical Observatory with a 30-meter segmented mirror located on top of the Mauna Kea Mountains, Hawaii. Mirror The telescope consists of 492 segments, and its photosensitivity is 9 times higher than the largest existing at the moment ground-based telescopes. Thus, the TMT pictures taken will be at least three times sharper. Construction work will begin in 2014 year, and the telescope will be put into operation no earlier than 2021 of the year. The telescope will allow you to look far beyond the solar systems and with high accuracy see what is happening in the universe on 13 billion light-years from Earth. Telescope cost is approximately 1.3 billion dollars. It is worth noting that on TMT telescope may not receive the title itself the largest optical telescope in the world since at the same time planned to launch a European (extremely large) telescope (E-ELT) with a 45-meter segment mirror in Chile.
