Unmanned “boomerang” for Mars

UnmannedPhotos from open sources NASA space agency this summer will begin testing the new Prandtl-m drone, which will become the main reconnaissance vehicle on Mars through some years.

Please note that the Prandtl-m is very similar to boomerang, which makes it, according to the designers, more reliable and less vulnerable to unforeseen circumstances which is quite expect him on the Red Planet.

The Martian “boomerang” has a length of sixty centimeters and weighs a little over a kilogram (by earthly standards). On Mars this the device will reduce its mass to four hundred grams – such gravity on the red planet.

True, he will not get to the planet planned for him earlier 2022, because he still needs to pass tests: the first tests this summer and the second – in 2016. If successful, third boomerang trials are supposed to be the most complex and they will pass at an altitude of almost one hundred and forty kilometers above sea level, for which the CubeSat satellite will be launched into Earth orbit.

The Prandtl-m drone will perform the main task – to find the best sites for landing people on Mars. Of course, this is still a long way off, but the preparatory steps, namely The first tests of the “boomerang” will take place in the coming days.
