The Bible, or the Gospel of the Devil, is often mentioned in modern mystical films, for example, in the movie “Constantine”, the television movie “Trick of the Devil”, although the usual the Christian immediately raises the question – is such a church is there a book really? It turns out – yes, there is one. True, officially this bible is called the Gigas Codex (Codex Gigas), but later it became known as the Devil’s Bible, apparently for placed in her an unusual portrait of the Devil.
This folio, the pages of which are made of parchment, has a height of 91 centimeters, a width of 50 centimeters and a thickness of 22 centimeter. It weighs a block of 75 kilograms, so move it this manuscript is not for everyone. It has 624 surviving pages from 640. All the missing sheets were behind a huge portrait of the Devil – the oldest and largest image ruler of darkness. One can only guess what kind of information contained the missing pages, and most importantly – to whom and why do they need was cut from this tome.
However, given the indirect references to the Book of the Devil in others historical sources, about the huge interest in him medieval mystics (e.g. student of Paracelsus Christopher Schlichting in 1590 specially came to Brumov Monastery in the year to study this book), we can assume that the missing villages are just constituted the main value of this manuscript. Even surviving the last lines of the book suggest that it could be prophecies about the future of our planet. According to the official version of the interpretation of this prophecy from Gigas Code, it is believed that this is Hitler, who aspired to world domination, but it destroyed all his plans Northern Russian people. From the story of the Devil’s Bible
The Gigas Codex is supposedly written in 1240, though one the man who himself adorned the pages of the folio. According to legend, it was the reclusive monk Herman (according to other sources, his name Sobislav), who was imprisoned in a cell for some wrongdoing, and he wrote this work in one night, because the Devil himself helped him. Hence the unthinkable portrait of the Lord of Darkness, hence the name of the book – The Bible of the Devil.

I must say that according to legend, the Book of the Devil brought some misfortunes. For example, at the beginning of the fourteenth century it was stored in the town of Kutna Hora, as a result of which its inhabitants almost all died out from the plague in 1318, while the neighboring villages are terrible the disease did not even touch. In Kutna, as a symbol of that tragedy, still there is a unique chapel built from the bones of the dead from the plague of the inhabitants of this town. For example, a chandelier consists of fragments of bones of almost five thousand people, ceiling garlands – out of ten thousand, and the construction of the choir took even more – almost fifteen thousand different fragments of human bones.
Perhaps the Devil’s Bible brought misfortunes because of the records in her on those pages that were then abducted by someone. Today Gigas Codex is the property of the National Library of Sweden, where it stored in Stockholm since the seventeenth century, that is, since was brought from the Czech Republic as a trophy during the Thirteen Years war. Since then, no one has noticed her so terrible mysticism, true, and the pages that were located behind the portrait of Satan, also already no one else saw.

Already in our time the Czech press has repeatedly raised the issue of the requirement to return the Codex Gigas to their homeland, however in 2005, visiting Sweden, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Jiri Paroubek confirmed the agreement not to change anything and not to demand restitution of a unique manuscript.
By the way, let’s say, the Devil’s book has repeatedly visited its historical homeland, and now at the moment it is exhibited at public display in the gallery Klementinum Prague.
