A photo from open sources The phenomenon of the “white lady” Maria Bernard (or Bernadette) Subiru was born on January 7, 1844 in a village under the French city of Lourdes in a poor family. Her father was a miller, and his mother was a laundress. Bernadette was the eldest of five children surviving in childhood. They lived in such a need that the girl didn’t managed to get no education, and at age 12 was forced engage in a servant. February 11, 1858 Bernadette went with her sister and girlfriend for brushwood. Suddenly she heard a slight noise and saw that the nearby grotto is illuminated by a gentle, living light, and the bush rose hips at the entrance are wavering, as if from the wind. In the lighted grotto the girl appeared “something white, like a young lady” (her companions didn’t notice anything). Over the next six months, the “white lady” Bernadette appeared 17 more times. After a few Bernadetta’s insistent requests to give his name “young lady” finally replied: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” This answer resulted in the confusion of a local priest: an illiterate girl who is not even a catechism was given, I could not know about what was proclaimed in four years before Pope Pius IX the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, and therefore, she did not invent anything. “Young lady” ordered Bernadette dig a hole in the corner of the grotto, from which he later made his way spring with healing water. April 19th her buried in an oak galvanized coffin. Meanwhile, the rumor about the poor to the girl to whom the Mother of God appeared, and about the miraculous power Lourdes spring spread throughout France, and stood up the question of the canonization of Mary Bernard. For this it was necessary to carry out a canonical examination of the body of the deceased. September 22nd 1909 was exhumed. Detailed official report this is in the archive of the monastery of Saint-Gildard. It says that at 8:30 in the morning the coffin was opened in the presence of Monsignor Gauthier, Bishop of Nevers, as well as members of the diocesan tribunal. By Removing the coffin was found perfectly preserved body Bernadette. Her face shone with girlish beauty, her eyes were closed as if she was in a deep sleep, and her mouth was parted. Head slightly tilted to the left, arms folded over chest and entwined heavily rusted beads; her skin, from under which they shone through veins, in perfect condition, adjacent to the tissues; equal and nails on hands and feet were in excellent condition.
