By According to Dulma Shagdarova, chairman of the Moscow Buddhist community, the reason for the suspension of the construction of religious facilities in Otradnoye became an acute lack of funding. Russian followers of Buddha are known to be forced independently without state assistance to seek funds for such goals.

Back in 2000, the Moscow Mayor signed a decree on the construction in Moscow of a Buddhist temple complex with a mortar. Four years later, the project was blessed by the Dalai Lama himself. However, the metropolitan Buddhist community only in the fall of 2014 received official written building permit. Shagdarova is sure that the Buddhist temple will harmoniously complement ensemble of three main Russian religions, taking pride of place next to the Christian Orthodox temple, Islamic mosque and judaic synagogue. It is noteworthy that the idea of building in Moscow such a temple appeared a quarter century ago, but since then representatives of the local Buddhist community now and then came across various problems that prevented them from implementing conceived.

First of all, Moscow plans to build a 13-meter Stupa of enlightenment – similar structures have for Buddhists sacred meaning, because, according to their beliefs, stupas carry the happiness of all living beings on the planet. After that in Otradnoye they will build a small temple, and then a large one – the total area of religious complex will be over three thousand square meters. On its territory, among other things, there will be a library, cultural and wellness centers, as well as a dining room for the poor.

The construction organizers are convinced that the Buddhist temple in Moscow will become a real symbol of interfaith friendship, since its doors will be open not only to followers of the Buddha, but also for people with any other beliefs.
