Ancestors made up a lot of folk signs about the weather, which we continue to use to this day. Moreover, even without any special devices and devices, our grandparents could make a fairly detailed and accurate forecast.
Today these weather predictions have not lost their popularity: according to folk signs associated with the behavior of animals and plants, one can predict what nature has prepared for us for several months in advance.
How to predict the weather?
There are general signs about the weather that can provide the following forecast:
- there is fog in the morning – in the daytime there will be not a cloud in the sky;
- on a sunny day, the sky pours rain on the earth – tomorrow also expect a shower;
- clouds are painted in different shades – the weather will change;
- the main color of the rainbow is green – rain is expected, yellow – clear days, red – heat and wind;
- dewdrops rest on the very tips of the grass – clouds will rain;
- the foliage of chestnuts is covered with sticky drops – the rain will wash them in about a day;
- the reservoirs suddenly became dark – a thunderstorm will soon;
- frequent rumbles of thunder are heard, which look like a rumble – expect hail;
- around the moon they saw a ring – to the wind;
- it's dry outside and the trees are losing their branches – signs say that it will rain soon;
- the sky is covered with thunderclouds, but the bees continue to fly – precipitation is not expected;
- the beetles are buzzing strongly – the sky will be clear, and the day will be warm;
- noticed a rainbow in the early morning – the weather will deteriorate, if in the evening it will be clear;
- small drops of rain indicate that the bad weather will drag on;
- dew covered the herbs profusely – the day will be warm and hot;
- dewdrops on foliage in thick fog – the sky will be clear;
- green rays at sunset – good weather is expected tomorrow;
- clouds rise higher and higher – signs promise improved weather conditions;
- the wind blows from the north-west – it will bring changeable weather with it;
- in the morning, after the sun has already risen, the clouds have cleared – the weather is expected to be good;
- the sun rises and lights the morning sky with red – get ready for the rains;
- sunset orange – for good weather, red or bright yellow – for windy, pale yellow
- or purple – to rainy, pink – to clear;
- clouds float quickly, easily, ahead of the clouds – wind is foreseen, rain is possible;
- clouds become denser – to rain, large ones scatter – the sky will soon clear;
- the sky darkens – it will be dry, brightens, becomes whitish – to precipitation.
Some folk signs help to form an idea of the upcoming weather by month. For example, if from the fifth to the seventh of April it is mostly windy, then it will rain in June. Snow fell in the first or second month of autumn – spring will be early.
Spring
Spring weather signs will tell you how to plan your sowing work.
- Larks return home – they bring warmth with them.
- We heard thunder in March – this is one of the signs of bad weather, so get ready for the cold weather to return.
- High floating clouds say the day will be fine.
- Snowdrops began to droop and close – signs predict worsening weather conditions, blooming – an improvement.
- Moles leave burrows – rain is expected.
Summer
Summer weather signs will help you plan your vacation.
- The crickets are singing loudly – it will be clear, and the day is sunny, they suddenly fell silent – the sky will rain.
- Changes in the weather promise folk signs associated with frogs: they croak loudly – the day will be clear, quiet – rainy.
- Sparrows wallow in puddles – precipitation is expected.
- The wind blows from the west – to worsening weather conditions, from the east – to heat and drought, from the north – in the morning it will be very cold.
- The quiet cooing of pigeons promises a clear, fine day.
- Thunder is heard in the morning – in the evening the clouds will burst with summer rain.
- Swallows circle above the ground – signs predict rain.
- In the full moon phase, the sunset is colored red – good weather will be long.
- It is warm at night – one can hope for a large honey harvest.
Fall
The weather in autumn is judged by the following folk signs.
- The wind is strong – to a small amount of frost and vice versa.
- In early autumn, a lot of snow fell – by early and warm spring.
- Rowan gave few berries – to dryness, large clusters – to rain.
- The sun sets and paints the sky pink or yellow – it will be good.
- Thunder is heard in September – according to autumn signs, warm weather will set in.
- The birds, perched on the roofs of houses, promise bad weather.
Autumn signs can provide weather predictions for the winter: if mosquitoes are active in late autumn, then the winter months will be relatively warm and mild. Leaf fall is abundant – mostly snowy weather is expected in winter.
Winter
Such folk signs will tell about the weather for the winter.
- Sparrows are chirping loudly – there will be a blizzard.
- Ravens are also weather forecasters: if they try to hide their beaks under the wing, it means that soon it will be warm, play on the fly – for good weather, cuddle – for precipitation.
- Not a cloud in the sky – frosts are expected.
- Frost on the trees – warmth will be established.
- The cat sharpens its claws on the wooden floor – get ready for a blizzard.
- In the evenings, the dawns burn for a short time – there will be a thaw.
- Popular signs of winter, predicting the weather for other seasons, say: from December to February it is mostly warm – the summer is going to be cold, but if there are frosts, the spring will be warm.
- The stars are bright – the day will be frosty.
- On Paramona (December 12) it is clear in the morning – this weather will be all day, it is snowing – blizzards are expected until December 19, snow covers the valleys – winter signs promise that the snowstorms will last for another week.
- On Zlatoust 'fire (February 9), the clouds began to float against the wind – it will snow.
Signs involving plants
Folk omens for plants can help predict the weather forecast: precipitation, the intensity of solar radiation, etc.
- Morning glory folded its flowers – soon the weather will deteriorate, in a couple of hours it will rain.
- Marigolds blossomed early in the morning – the day will be calm, clear and sunny, unfolded their flowers in the afternoon – a thunderstorm is expected.
- Clear weather promises a sign of a bell with well-opened peduncles, but if they droop, wait for precipitation.
- Water lilies closed their flowers with leaves – it will be bad weather, if the buds opened early in the morning (at 07: 00-08: 00) and closed before 19:00 – a sunny warm day is expected.
- Drops of dew have appeared on the leaves of the willow bush – in two hours it will rain.
- The walnut gave a rich harvest, but little mushrooms grew – in winter a lot of snow is expected and in general it will be frosty.
- Branches of pines and firs are rarely covered with cones – there will be little snow in winter and the days will be warm.
- In spring, the leaves appeared on the ash earlier than on the oak – a large amount of precipitation is expected in summer.
But if the opposite happened: the oaks were covered with green before the ash – the summer will be dry.
- Indoor oxalis folded leaves in the afternoon – it will soon rain.
- Weather forecasts can also be obtained from folk omens about buttercup: if its flowers are open in a cloudy sky, precipitation is not expected.
- Inflorescences on potato bushes have wilted – bad weather is expected.
- Blooming yellow acacia exudes an intense aroma, and there are many insects above its buds – to worsen weather conditions, rain is possible.
- The rowan has released flowers later than usual – the autumn will be long and rich in mushroom harvest.
Signs involving animals and birds
Following folk signs about animals and birds, you can also make a weather forecast.
- Hear the chirping of grasshoppers in the rye in the evening – the next day will be sunny.
- Swallows and haircuts soar high in the sky in the evening, whistle with their wings and shout – by good weather, according to popular beliefs, tomorrow will be a clear and sunny day.
- If the dogs are swinging on the grass, expect rainfall.
- Birds, such as crows and jackdaws, scream loudly – it will rain.
- The hen gathers chickens under its wing – a sharp deterioration in weather conditions is expected: heavy rain will fall, a hurricane is possible.
However, if the chicken stands on one leg – expect a cold snap, but no precipitation.
- The frogs promise rain, which jump restlessly and high by the reservoir.
- To equip its house, the squirrel climbed high on a tree – this promises a warm mild winter, if it is busy low – from December to February it will be quite cold.
- Sparrows flounder in the sand – rain is expected in the evening. If in winter they huddle in flocks and scream loudly in flight – to a blizzard and a drop in air temperature.
- Swallows, blackbirds or finches are circling low – soon the sky will rain.
- The cat sleeps on the floor throughout the day – warming is ahead.
By observing birds, animals, plants and natural phenomena, you can predict weather conditions every day and see that these centuries-old predictions are really true.
