Many have heard that it is impossible to pour by weight or through the hand. However, not everyone knows exactly where these superstitions came from. And what is most interesting, their basis is not mystical, it originates from the Middle Ages.

Why can't you pour through your hand?
Let's start with the fact that when a person pours through his hand, then he holds it with his palm up. What's wrong with that? As history testifies, there are many cases when people were poured into glasses with poison, which, as a rule, was in the ring. And in order for the poisonous substance to get into the drink, it was enough just to turn the hand.
Since then, a belief has developed, which has survived to this day. However, it has several interpretations.
- People say that alcoholic and any other drinks cannot be poured through the hand, because otherwise your life may change, and necessarily for the worse.
- If a person drinks a drink poured in this way, then diseases will fall on him, it will be almost impossible to get rid of them.
- A very bad omen is considered when a couple in love is poured through the hand. According to beliefs, their life together will not work out: scandals, quarrels, and mutual accusations will begin.
- There is a belief that categorically prohibits pouring a drink through the hand of a pregnant woman. A sign in this case promises the expectant mother a deterioration in her health, which makes it very difficult for her to endure and give birth to a child.
- If you pour it through the hand of a girl who is not in a relationship, then she can remain alone forever. All novels will be short-lived, and she will never be able to meet her fate.
- An ancient belief says: when you pour through your hand, at the same time you give up your energy, and in return you risk getting the problems of those people whose glasses you fill.
- Superstitious people say that by pouring through the hand, a person can attract great grief into his home: the unexpected death of one of his relatives or his own.
- Signs are not advised to pour through your hand even to yourself, otherwise luck will turn away from you and in the future all your undertakings will be a failure.
In no case should a lover drink a drink poured through the hand, otherwise, even after reconciliation, they will not be able to be together – a break in relations is inevitable.
Why can't you pour it by weight?
This belief is also rooted in history. Several centuries ago, on holidays, wealthy people had a tradition of treating the poor with alcoholic drinks. Wine in those days was stored only in large barrels, from which it was then poured.
The peasants, coming up to such a barrel, poured themselves, holding the mug in the air. Noble people have always consumed alcohol during lavish feasts, putting their glass on a snow-white tablecloth. This is how a sign appeared, the meaning of which is that only people from the lower strata of the population are poured by weight.
If you pour it by weight, you can lose your financial well-being
The second version of superstition is again associated with the times of trouble and poisons. When a person poured on the weight, then after he was certainly distracted for a few seconds in order to put the vessel with the drink on the table. At this moment, ill-wishers could well have poured poison into his goblet.
Thus, on the basis of these events, the people developed several signs that have survived to this day. They are able to explain why vodka and other drinks cannot be poured by weight.
- There is an opinion that such an act is capable of taking away health from a person, incurring numerous troubles and misfortunes on him.
- It is believed that if you pour it by weight, you can lose your financial well-being. The house, in which there was previously prosperity, will become empty, hunger and poverty will come to it. In this case, we can talk about demotion or dismissal from work.
- Another sign says that a person will have problems with others. Mutual understanding will be broken, relations with relatives, friends and colleagues will deteriorate, respect will disappear. It will seem to you that people simply do not notice your good deeds, and only pay attention to mistakes.
- When a person pours himself by weight, then in this case he worsens his own health. The disease can collapse suddenly and literally knock you down in a couple of days.
- If, pouring by weight, a person accidentally spills a few drops on you, then this means that you cannot avoid a scandal with loved ones. Moreover, the quarrel will break out precisely through your fault and, most likely, one of your closest relatives will be drawn into the scandal.
If you pour something on the weight of a pregnant woman, then the negative value of the omen will double.
The negative action of the signs can be completely neutralized. To do this, you need to pour out a few drops of the drink from the glass and, while finishing it, broadcast only good thoughts.
