Warwick Castle, located in the English city of Warwick on the right bank of the Avon River, was built in 1068 and used until the beginning of the seventeenth century as a fortification. Then the construction went to Baron Fulk Greville, who made of it country estate. After the castle was captured by Henry of Anjou, who became soon king of England, and turned the fortress into a prison for maintenance criminals.
When the fortress was besieged by royalist troops, it did not surrender under their fierce onslaught. Subsequently parliamentarians held here their prisoners of war. Over time, nearby land turned into chic gardens, and Warwick Castle was re-equipped by equipping additional towers and protective elements. Fortress today considered one of the best examples of medieval British military architecture. In 1978, a castle surrounded by gardens was turned into museum complex.
Castle of numerous ghosts
The rich history of the structure in which thousands once died captives, gave rise to numerous legends of ghosts. One from the towers of the castle it’s called – Ghost Tower. Eyewitnesses claim that she’s visited almost every night by the spirit of Fulk Greville, who loved to spend a lot of time here during his life. In empty and dark dungeons from time to time heart-rending cries are heard. Obviously, many prisoners were tortured here. And in one from the rooms on the top floor you can meet a ghost right in the afternoon a girl who was once the secret mistress of one of counts.
