A strange epidemic has raged around East Africa, which makes people make involuntary nodding movements. The disease usually affects children aged 5 to 15 years, and manifested during meals. For the period from August to December 2012 in northern Uganda, about a thousand cases were recorded infection, 66 children died. Researchers can’t yet explain the cause of an unknown disease, but they say that its development independent of diet or genetic predisposition. It is suggested that “nodding syndrome” may be caused nematode worm Onchocerca volvulus. This parasite is already known. that causes the so-called “river blindness”, because of which nearly 18 million people lost their sight. However scientists cannot provide scientific evidence for this hypothesis. Methods for treating a strange disease are also unknown, the number of cases growing every month.
