It is well known that in our world there are people suffering gigantism or for life remaining dwarfs. Both, presumably unpleasant for humans, although small stature allows its carrier to live long and without any special problems with health that can’t be said about the giants.

However, few people know that in the history of mankind among the rare of giants there is an Austrian named Adam Rainer who was a dwarf and a giant in one person. How is this possible?

Adam was born in 1899 to a married couple who was herself normal in terms of human growth. However, their son at the beginning no different from other children. However closer to teenage it became clear to age that Adam was lagging behind his peers in physical development, since at 15 he had a growth of only 130 centimeters. Even at age 19, the young man did not exceed 142 centimeters, why he was not taken into the army, despite all the patriotic Adam Rainer’s attempts to volunteer to participate in World War One. He was a real dwarf, not fit for military service …

And only at 26, Adam suddenly began to grow. At first it was he and his relatives are happy to accept (especially when the man reached a height of 180 cm), but soon joy was replaced concern. At thirty, Adam Rainer was already 218 centimeters and, unfortunately, everything continued to stretch up. Exactly then the doctors seriously examined him and found in his head (in the area of ​​the pituitary gland) a tumor that apparently stimulated the production of the hormone of gigantism. However, the doctors never managed identify the reason Adam was a dwarf at first …

The tumor was removed from the head of the giant, so Rainer no longer growing so fast, although still continued to add centimeter by centimeter. Because of this, he began serious health problems. So, the curvature of the spine, ultimately account, confined the man to the bed, he soon became deaf in one ear and blind in one eye …

In 1950, when the Austrian giant passed away, his height was already 234 centimeters.
