A man and a little boy walked and walked. Both are tired but the mood was high: for a long time the father promised his son a long trip to mountains and now, a dream come true. This walk in the alpine mountains he will be remembered for a long time. Tired, they crouched on a stone, took out bread, cheese, jars of water. “Dad, look!” – whispered the boy, yanking father by the sleeve. The man turned. A few meters from sat them on a stone … it is not clear who. Snake? There are no such healthy snakes it happens. Lizard? With a cat’s face?
“Be quiet and don’t move,” the man whispered and slowly pulled to yourself a stick – if it rushes at us – run home, do not wait for me. ” The beast hissed, bent its back, snorted, jumped over a stone and disappeared. “Dad, that was … he?” – “Yes, Tatzelwurm. Consider us today wildly lucky. The heavenly angels saved us. ”
Legendary alpine monster
Such legends among the inhabitants of the Alps are not dozens – hundreds. In the Austrian Alps at the Talbrook Pass you will be shown a memorial a board with the inscription “From sudden horror, he died here, pursued Jumping Worms, Hans Fuck of Unken, 1779. “Poor Collecting berries, stumbled upon two “worms” and rushed off. Hans escaped, but the subsequent heart attack did not suffer. He died in time Before death, talk about the “meeting.”

Worm Hunt
In 1819, the Berne Society of Natural Sciences promised a prize in 3 louis to the one who undertakes to deliver the tatzelvurma alive or dead, but no hunters were found. Rumors about the poisonousness of the “worm” had underneath a real basis: in 1826 in the vicinity of Kitzbühel died a boy bitten by a “worm.” In 1833 in the Gosau area Tatzelwurm attacked the young Austrian and bit him in the arm. Doctor, examined the wound, insisted on amputation – the young man does not agreed and died a few days later.
In 1850, the inhabitants of one of the alpine villages killed Tatzelvurma, his corpse lay for several days near the local church, parishioners walked around, shook their heads and gasped.
In 1914, an Austrian soldier caught a “worm” during ongoing maneuvers by throwing his tunic on him. Satisfied the hunter brought his trophy to the camp. The officer warned that the animal is poisonous and the soldiers kept the Tatzelwurm for several days in chest, feeding mice and mice. June 28, 1914 in Sarajevo Gavrilo Princip pulled the trigger twice, shots rumbled for the whole Europe, the soldiers were not up to the wonderful beast.
In the middle of the 20th century there was a surge of messages. In 1921 in Austria near the settlement of Hochfilzen Tatzelwurm attacked grazing sheep. In 1924, a serpentine creature with clawed paws and a cat’s head attacked a pig. The Worm was seen in 1927, 1934, 1948, 1950, 1963 and 1969

Portrait in the interior
In the mid-30s, scientists distributed among the inhabitants of the Alps, claiming that they saw tattselvurma, a questionnaire in which they asked describe the beast. Out of 80 descriptions, a general view was compiled. In length from 45cm up to 1 m (not so huge!). The body is long, towards the end tapering, 10-20 cm thick, brown back, belly – beige, on a flattened head, two spherical eyes, front paws thin and short, hind or completely absent, or underdeveloped on the back crest.
Some claimed that his skin was smooth and shiny, while others – that the “worm” is covered in scales. Aggressive in nature – seeing human, goes on the attack (jumping). Floats in water (visible water for him is a native element), moves in a zigzag fashion.
Recent meetings with Tatzelwurm relate to the beginning of the 90s of the last century. From that time – how circumcised. Zoologists who sincerely believe in the “worm” express themselves bitterly in the spirit that tattselvurm existed, but apparently extinct and if somewhere and individual individuals remained – it’s just a miracle.
