Often, journalists call the unique village of Githorn – Dutch or northern Venice. But it is very superficial a comparison worthy of the pen of a novice but not a husband in journalism. A business in that it is a small settlement, although it has no streets, just like famous Venice, and the main means of transportation here are boats, the village, however, is not immersed in water (in the sea), and the houses here not standing on stilts.

It’s just that every house and land near it has its own natural island. It happened because, settling in this place in XIII century, people for a long time engaged in mining local peat, choosing nearby housing it wherever You can, leaving only the areas under buildings, gardens and gardens – and there appeared numerous islands, water arteries between them and almost two hundred bridges.

And although bridges, of course, are created for hiking, the main transport in Githorn are boats. There are many from rowing boats to small boats. However all of them combines the main thing – environmental cleanliness. That is, in Giethoorn either oars or only electric motors are used, and therefore tourists often call this village the village of whispering boats.

This tourist Mecca was discovered only in the sixties last century. However, Gihron, partly directed by Bert Hanster, captured a fantastic village in the movie Fanfare, but more due to its uniqueness, it quickly becomes very popular with tourists. And it’s not even a matter of its water structure similar to Venice, Giethoorn retained the atmosphere of life of the eighteenth century – and this the main thing. Here, even the roofs are still mostly thatched, a little less often – tiled. Life, lifestyle, peace in everything make this place just some kind of Eden.

Tourists coming here can rent a boat, settle in comfortable “home” hotels, even rent on some time housing. But … buy property in the village of Githor just impossible. No, there are no bans on the sale, just locals (there are a little less than 3 thousand) do not want to change this patriarchal life in all respects, practically perfect in terms of economics and management, not to mention ecology, for something else, especially urban and vain. People here live in harmony with nature and the world at large, they are happy to provide an opportunity for visitors to experience this paradise on land (entry to Giethoorn is free, money is only needed for rental boats, hotel accommodation, familiarization with local food residents and so on).

As tourists say (almost unanimously), it’s not just beautiful and in every way a cozy village, it’s a real paradise corner. Having lived here even a day, you understand that you simply suffered in a time machine three hundred years ago. And come back from here already I don’t feel like it at all. Too bad someone turns on fantastic again mechanism, and as if throws you into a noisy, inhospitable, even a dangerous XXI century, and, unfortunately, nothing can be done about it …
