Cats trust eyes more

If you do not believe it, look out the window and throw it to the yard cats something edible, preferably scattering pieces, say, fish, and watch how animals will look for them. And you notice: mainly through the eyes, and not through the sense of smell.

It seems that in cats it is poorly developed. However, this is far from the case, their sense of smell, like any predators, developed just magnificent, but for some reason these animals are more trust vision.

Lincoln University scientists even set up a special experience (it’s complicated, we won’t describe its details), thanks to which determined that out of six cats, four are looking for food through sight, and only one – with the help of smell. And where did the sixth go, you ask? The latter turned out to be the smartest, and therefore when searching food did not give preference to any sensory organ, using them, as they say, on equal terms.

And this despite the fact that it was traditionally believed that cats at first place put the sense of smell. But in practice it turns out – no, at first their place is vision. Why is that? The simplest explanation that begs or, one might say, lies on the surface, – so only domestic cats come in. In nature they behave completely different, and there remains the main sense of smell. But Domestication of animals leads to the fact that the vision in cats becomes dominant body in the search for food.

But here another, no less interesting question arises: why only with cats do such metamorphoses occur? Take at least domestic dogs, because those who preferred to rely on everything the sense of smell never betray him. And cats … And the answer to this riddle scientists have not yet found nature.
