A touching story occurred in a family of lions living in Mikumi National Park in Tanzania. Wild beasts behaved by to a relative who is in trouble is better than sometimes behaving some people. Pride nursed his fellow for three years, chained in a metal “collar”. Wounded Lion Tourists first noticed back in 2009: the animal’s neck was squeezed by a noose from of iron rods into which the young lion fell as a cub, having landed into the trap of poachers. – Hunters set traps on small animals – such as the impala antelope. Most likely curious the lion cub stuck its head in there and broke free already with a wire loop around the neck, said the senior ranger William Mwakilema Nature Reserve.

Over time, the young king of animals became a real hostage to his fetters. With each passing year, the wire dug deeper into the lion’s neck, dooming him to a long and painful death from suffocation. – after the first signal that our pet was in trouble, we attempted to track down and free him. But the territory our reserve is too large, and the nature of these animals is very careful, ”says Mwakilema. – So the lion survived only thanks to the cares of their relatives. According to employees reserve, all of them were struck by the behavior of wild animals. Brothers and the sisters of the wounded animal supported his strength, bringing him food with hunting. “They did not kill him, as they usually do with weak males.” On the contrary, the lions did not let him die all this time, until people were powerless to help, – the supervisor added. With common effort Rangers and tourists could track down a dying lion only in August this year. The veterinarians were immediately called into the place. euthanized the sufferer to help him. – It was very dangerous procedure. Five brothers of our patient defended their relative, so we had to drive them away in jeeps. Eventually we managed to remove the rods from his neck. The damage was so deep, that, if we don’t intervene, it would soon be too late, – said William Mwakilema. After treating the wounds, people left the lion to recover in the circle of his devoted family. A few months after rescue operation of a recent captive poaching stranglehold again noticed in the open spaces of the reserve. According to the caretakers of the reserve, the lion has almost completely recovered, on his neck and head finally the mane began to grow, and now they remind of terrible wounds only deep scars.
