Gonabad is still used in modern Iran the oldest qanat water pipe, or kyariz, which is almost three millennia. It is no coincidence that in 2007 this unique system was even included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Despite the fact that ancient kyaris is historical monument, he still supplies clean drinking water to more than forty thousand inhabitants of the city, which in itself is almost fantastic happening.

Another thing is surprising: this water pipe was built by the Persians. several millennia ago using knowledge not only laws of physics, but also hydraulics, geology, and this knowledge even modern builders like facilities.
Thanks to all this, the gonabad system could successfully collect (and still collects) water from underground horizons, transporting her then into the irrigation canals and the city. Thanks to this, Persia did not only existed but flourished in a hot climate and apparent lack of water.

The length of Kyariz Gonabad is just over thirty-three meters, in it four hundred or more recesses to collect moisture. Similar method water production in arid areas was later borrowed by many peoples and was widely used, for example, in Algeria, Afghanistan, Morocco, Libya and so on. There is its kyariz even in Crimea – in Evpatoria, however, the gonabad water system in Iran is the most the oldest surviving and still operating.
