Frequent stress in children leads to a change brain sizes

Everyone knows that stress negatively affects human health. Imperfectly affected by such problems children’s organisms. Moreover, as it turned out, poor sleep, depressive condition, emotional lability – frequent companions of stress, not only lead to weakening of the body, but also affect state and functioning of the brain.

According to research done by a scientist from Washington, frequent depression in preschool age is the cause of the small size of some brain structures. Along with this, children who often suffered from depressions in childhood as adults are also not able resist stress. Similar information was obtained during a large-scale experiment in which 149 three were involved – six year old children. The first stage of the experiments allowed scientists to find out that 47 people had pathological guilt. Also at these children showed signs of depression.

From the age of seven, all subjects underwent research 2 times per year. Scientists have done brain MRI for children track its growth and development. Similar studies lasted up to the age of thirteen. In the course of summarizing the results it turned out that those children who suffered from childhood depression, the area of ​​the brain responsible for the manifestation of emotions was less than the rest. In addition, they remained elevated susceptibility to stress.
