Hong Kong’s densely populated neighborhoods

Due to historical, political, and geographical reasons only 23.7% of the territory of Hong Kong is developed, of which land in only 6.8% is used for housing. No wonder Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities on the planet than with 6,400 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Most of the city’s 7 million residents live in apartments Tall buildings towering over the skyline of Hong Kong. In total complexity, there are 6,588 high-rise buildings throughout Hong Kong. For comparisons, in New York there are “only” 5818 such buildings, which makes Hong Kong is a true city of skyscrapers.

Despite the fact that such an urban landscape can many like, the living conditions of most people here are far from perfect. Many of them live like dogs in cages. To convey the entire claustrophobic residential structure of the most densely populated quarters of Hong Kong, German photographer Michael Wolf made a beautiful series of photographs, calling it “Density Architecture”.
