Every nation, even the smallest, can boast their traditions. They often seem strange to strangers or funny, but each tradition has its own meaning and its own a story.

For example, in Mali (Africa), on Lake Antogo, periodically an unusual ritual is held. The lake itself, fed by the waters of the river Niger, small but very rich in fish. Dogon tribe, members who live in nearby thirteen villages, consider the lake sacred. And only one single day of the year in Antogo allowed to fish.

On this day, all the Dogon gather on its shores. Elders tribes perform special rituals and cast spells. Picture it turns out very impressive in combination with a lot of black figures surrounding the lake. So several hours pass, but here the elders give a certain signal – and all people rush for fish in the lake. By the way, at this time a small pond, agitated by hundreds of people, takes the form of a mud mass. In general, it’s enough for a dog to catch 15-20 minutes to catch almost all fish from the lake.

According to legend, this tradition originated in that distant time, when residents of several villages simultaneously discovered a lake Antogo. A brutal war broke out for him, in which many Dogon died. Over the years, co-fishing has evolved not only in a ritual, but also a way to unite all members of the tribe. Now it symbolizes the world between the Dogon. Not by chance all people give the caught fish to the elders, and they share the catch equally between the villages.
