In Antarctica, a “lost” cave with a river was found and two lakes

Ukrainian researchers found unusual in Antarctica cave with a river and two lakes. This was reported by the press service. Ministry of Education of Ukraine.

A cave located on the island of Galindez was discovered during first expeditions to the Antarctic. On the same island is located Ukrainian station “Academician Vernadsky”.

The head of the expedition Igor Dikiy said that the entrance to the cave was under the top of the glacier. It was speculated that several years ago, the glacier shifted towards the ocean and the entrance to it turned out to be littered with. He also said that earlier there were several attempts to get into the cave from the side of the strait, but they ended in failure. Go to it was succeeded only by the British base, which is also Museum, Word.

Cave with a total length of strokes that are located one above the other three floors, is approximately 200 meters.

At the very bottom of the route, Ukrainian researchers found a frozen lake, and at the very end of the route – a huge Hall. The height of the hall is about 12 meters, the width is about 8 meters, and the length is 30 meters.

In the cave there are two lakes and an ice river. Scientists took water for further research on the presence of viruses and bacteria in it. Researchers also found a bird feather in the cave, which they opinion, certainly does not belong to the penguin.

Station “Academician Vernadsky”, located on the island of Galindez, was founded in 1953 by researchers from the UK under the name “Faraday”, and subsequently was simply given to Ukraine.
