Head of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen seriously Concerned about the development of the local tourism industry. The highest official of the subject of the Russian Federation asked what citizens have ideas on this subject. Residents of the region suggested that Alexander Petrovich try to lure tourists with the local legend of a mermaid living in Lake Ladoga.
This idea unexpectedly pleased the head of the republic. Khudilainen considered that each region is simply necessary mystical legend of some amazing creature living in him. Not so long ago, an official paid a business visit to Austria, where, among other things, the issue of the tourism industry was raised European country. It turned out that in the Republic of Austria there is many such myths, and travelers are happy to visit places where supposedly live elves, trolls, goblin, fairies and other fabulous creation.
However, the best example of such a legend is annually attracting millions of tourists, is undoubtedly the famous Loch Ness monster floating in the Scottish Lake Loch Ness. Despite the fact that the Karelian mermaid is unlikely to achieve so fantastic fame, officials believe that with competent marketing this myth can still be interested foreigners visiting Russia.
Tradition has it that one day on the shore of the Gulf of Impilahti in Lake Ladoga lived a beautiful girl who was insanely in love with one young man reciprocating with her. However, the couple in love was forcibly divided, and the unfortunate mourned so much that it turned into a half-human half-fish, settling in a local pond. They say that every midnight a mermaid crawls out water and calls his lover, uttering heartbreaking screams.
It is noteworthy that about this piercing legend back in 1875 wrote the domestic hydrograph Alexander Andreev in his book “Ladoga lake”.
