For some reason, we believe that the universe should exist certainly biological life, very similar to ours. However even on Earth you can find monsters that have adapted to another setting, for example, due to the harsh temperatures of Antarctica. AND in the midst of severe frosts, such animals feel very comfortable, because they have a completely different, non-biological nature origin.
Journalists christened these terrible creatures of Antarctica monsters Horvitsa, since it is this researcher of the coldest the mainland of our planet first encountered them in 1960, and then he happened to see them again. However, these predatory there is another name for the creatures of the icy cold – cryons.
First meeting with cryons
In 1960, Isaac Horwitz joined a group of researchers, which is the warmest month for Antarctica (it was only minus 40 degrees Celsius) set off from Amundsen-Scott Station to about fifty Earth’s south pole kilometers from the Soviet scientific station “Vostok”. Scientists moving slowly, making numerous stops as made all kinds of measurements. And before starting with another the parking lot the group missed the Stoppard magnetologist who constantly moving away from the expedition in order to collect reliable data, because working terrain vehicles interfered with this.

Traces of the magnetologist led to a crack in which he failed: in in the depths of his figure on a natural ice cornice darkened. Behind Isaac Horwitz came down with the body of a comrade. As the descent into the ice crack continued, the scientist noted that it was getting colder. At a depth of about one hundred and forty meters he reached the ice cornice on which the magnetologist fell, but the bodies there was gone – only a few traces of it. Who or what could drag the corpse of a person in this cold (the temperature here was about minus 70 degrees Celsius). Yes, and the light penetrated here already quite badly…
Having examined the eaves more closely, Isaac discovered not only frozen blood and Stoppard’s fur glove, but also weird footprints very similar to rats, but so huge that such a “rat” should be the size of a wolf, or even larger. By lighting lantern down, Horvitz momentarily caught two glowing eyes monster in whose mouth the scientist noticed the body of the unfortunate a magnetologist. The monster darted away from the beam of the lantern and disappeared. from the eyes. Isaac saw no one else, no matter how he shone and no matter how tried to see something else. It’s simply not to go down below was the right equipment.
A little later, the equipment was dropped from the plane, and the researchers managed to descend into the ice crack already at 550 meters, carefully having examined it, but the magnetologist’s bodies were never found. By the way, myself Gorvits did not tell anyone about his meeting with the monster of this ice of the world, because he was afraid that he could simply be written off from expeditions due to illness (supposedly suffering from hallucinations).
The second meeting with cryons
The polar explorers did not reach the south pole at that time, since the weather turned bad and they had to return to the station, where soon the temperature dropped to minus seventy degrees, rose the wind, which made any sortie mortally dangerous. Nonetheless, Kenneth Millar and Art Short, who didn’t returned on time, and the attendant also fell asleep, therefore realized that the missing members of the expedition too late.
Only on the third day, when the weather calmed down a bit, dead bodies of missing researchers were discovered two miles from the station. Many things turned out to be strange: both how they got here, and moreover, what remains of the polar explorers. It was the clothes and flesh of people – without a single bone …
Isaac Horwitz, mindful of his meeting with the monster in the ice crack, suggested Kenneth Millar and Art Short saw something that made them move away from the station, and then bad weather just blocked their way back. And when people froze, the monster of Antarctica did its job – and he needed only bones. And although many then it seemed too much fantastic, the researchers had no choice but to accept Horvitz’s assumption for a working hypothesis.

Isaac himself soon had the opportunity to run into this terrible predator. That day, he and a friend worked in a magnetic pavilion. Going out, Gorvits suddenly noticed in the moonlight that to them a huge white bat is approaching. The scientist took advantage revolver, which he allocated the head of the station. By shooting everything cartridges, he drove the creature from the pavilion and even wounded this monster. His comrade, who is at this time inside the pavilion, flying I didn’t see a bat. Having studied later the remains of the “blood” of the wounded predator, scientists concluded that it is similar to antifreeze, and therefore it does not freeze even in centigrade frost.
It turns out that polar cryons live in the depths of Antarctica – Kryonis Polaris. These are creatures of the ammonia-carbon type, for which the optimum temperature is minus 70-100 degrees Celsius. That’s why they concentrated around the south pole, where the lowest temperatures, and when the sun comes, more warm season, then most likely they just hibernate, hiding deep beneath the ice. The best time for them is the polar night, warm for them it is destructive, therefore they avoid settlements, however, do not mind profit at the expense of man. Flesh and blood, i.e. proteins and fats they don’t need to, but bones are a great source of mineral substances.
Isaac Horwitz no longer encountered cryons, however, while talking with other researchers of Antarctica, for example, with Soviet polar explorers of the Vostok station, learned that he is not the only one the man who saw these monsters. So, the Russians scare away these flying creatures with rocket launchers, equipping them with termite cartridges. True, such charges are very dangerous for buildings, it is from them there was a fire in the “East” on April 12, 1982, when one of polar explorers, shooting at cryons, accidentally hit one of the buildings station. True, then all this was attributed to other reasons. fire, because, tell the polar explorers the whole truth about cryons and how they are protected from them, scientists would simply be written off to the mainland by illnesses …
