In the state of Western Australia, you can find a dried-up salt lake Ballard, which is not only a picturesque natural site, but also the largest art gallery on our planet. In 2003 British sculptor Anthony Gormley installed 51 here outlandish metal sculpture.
How amazing sculptures of Ballard were created
Mysterious sculptures are located on the coast of the reservoir, they scattered over an area of more than 10 square kilometers. Istukanov planned to be removed immediately after the 50th anniversary Perth International Arts Festival, in honor of which they were created, however, the sculptures were so loved by the locals and we arrive that they decided to leave them. Gormley used a special large laser scanner, thanks to which he received voluminous copies of volunteers from the nearby city of Menzies. Then he reduced the cross sections two-thirds of the bodies and connected the contours to get fancy and bewitching human shape. The artist named his brainchild “members of society.” Each sculpture consists of an alloy, containing titanium, molybdenum and vanadium. All materials were mined in Western Australia.

To see all the statues, you have to walk along the salt marshes several hours. Often the weather is incredibly hot, therefore, not every tourist manages to consider close each “member of society.” Ballard was the last full time in 1998 year. Heavy rains take place here periodically, thanks with which water rises a little in the lake. At such a time, some sculptures seem to stand on the water, creating enough surreal atmosphere of the unbelievable.

There are several urban legends associated with this place and directly with the statues. One of these myths is that there, where the views of the images intersect, a treasure is hidden. According to another popular rumor, Anthony Gormley created exact visual copies of bodies aliens. Finally, in 2013, Canadian traveler Greg Andersen told reporters an amazing and frightening story. According to a puzzled tourist, he walked near the lake and inadvertently broke away from his group.
