Researchers counted about 15 thousand round holes off the California coast of Big Sur. Average holes have a diameter of about 11 meters and a depth of almost a meter.
Strange formations were discovered quite by accident when scientists to study the bottom lowered down modern sonars. It turned out that a third of the holes are clogged with garbage, man-made, while others settled marine the inhabitants.
Scientists can not yet explain the origin of these formations. There is a version that these holes are the result of methane emissions, however, in these places, these emissions have not been recorded dozens thousand years. According to another version – the matter is the garbage that settled to the bottom, and then underwater currents were gradually washed out from under it priming.
