On the coast of the South Island in New Zealand rendered in waves deep-sea squid from the genus Architeutis. Biologist Megan Lewis from the Caikura Aquarium reports that the body turned out to be fresh and completely whole. The fact that the animal swam so close to the coast, amazing, however this decision, to unhappiness resulted in his death. Now the remains of the animal exhibited as an exhibit in the freezer of the aquarium, especially valuable tissue samples were sent to Wellington for study by metropolitan specialists.
It is noteworthy that the largest squid of the genus Architeutis, which scientists managed to observe, had a length of almost eighteen meters, and its weight exceeded a ton. Believed that these amazing marine giants that once caught the eye of sailors and fishermen, spawned numerous legends of even larger monsters – then, supposedly, there were monsters with tentacles capable of easily sink a whole ship.
