Oversized virus detected

Biologists believe that with the discovery of two new viruses, large sizes discovered a completely new type of life. This discovery literally shocked the world of science, many experts believe that these viruses, unofficially called Pandora Virus, may do a lot of trouble. Study co-author French scientist Jean-Michel said the discovery of viruses is a sign that our knowledge of such biological entities on Earth is not yet so great and most amazing discoveries about the origin of life and its evolution is ahead of us. Eugene Kunin, computational biologist National Center for Biotechnology Information, to its unfortunately did not participate in this study, but stated that the discovery of these viruses is surprising, but not unexpected – the scientist is sure that sooner or later this should happen. One of viruses was found in marine sediments off the coast of Chile, another – hiding in the mud of the shores of a freshwater lake near Melbourne, Australia. However, both viruses are so massive that they can be seen using a conventional light microscope. Their genes also just huge! Scientists have counted 1,910,000 DNA bases, in while the size of the previous viral gene record holder totals only 1,180,000 bases. First scientists were sure that the viruses are completely identical, however after comparison of two genome sequences and the proteins encoded by them, they came to the conclusion that they discovered a completely new family of viruses. They also conducted several experiments using light and electron microscopes and found that the “Pandora viruses” are not divide like ordinary bacteria or cells because they are capable of one cycle to spawn hundreds of their new copies. In addition, open viruses lack the genes that are needed for production energy and they cannot produce proteins without infecting unicellular organisms known to us as amoeba. By carefully studying the viral genes, scientists found that one virus contains about 1,500 genes, and the other is over 2500. While a typical flu virus counts only 10 gen. To date, scientists are not completely figured out what functions are endowed with the genes of these mysterious viruses. The only thing that was able to understand is that, unlike other viruses, they lack a protein gene. It is biological violation raises the question of the origin of “Pandora – viruses. “Scientists suggest that the ancient ancestors of these viruses once were free-living cells, and – unknown science life forms that gradually lost most of their genes, resulting in viruses.
